NASHVILLE, TN (February 10, 2023) — New-York based band of brothers, The Storm Windows, are two veteran musicians — Rob and Don Mathews — who have come together with their unique and reimagined sound. Today, they deliver “Somebody To Love,” a fresh take on the 1967 Jefferson Airplane classic, and the last single from their forthcoming Americana-infused rock record — fittingly titled, Second Album set for release on Friday, March 3

The Storm Windows’ cover of “Somebody To Love” gives a jazz-infused, Americana take on the original song. Their selective choices for the renditions in their catalog were “picked from some of our old school favorites and reimagined in other contexts,” Rob reveals. “Our cover of Jefferson Airplane’s ‘Somebody to Love’ channels the sonic themes in ‘From the Beginning’ by Emerson, Lake & Palmer… to approach the classic song from a new angle.” Each reinterpretation on Second Album follows this approach — with hopes to infuse the sounds of other classic songs into the renditions by the likes of Steely Dan, The Grateful Dead, among others.

Americana UK exclusively unveiled the duo’s previous single, praising: “‘Sweet Amelia’ is a bluegrass song at its heart, with a full, layered sound and a lovely, engaging melodic lightness. It’s a conscious blend of old and new… the duo produce a combination of Americana, folk and classic rock.”

With an assortment of electric and acoustic songs, Second Album consists of six originals and four renditions. Including their characteristic road trip songs and love sonics (or rather love gone wrong), the album also acknowledges the current American landscape, conveying topical themes. “The record has an overarching theme of hope,” note Rob and Don. “We didn’t set out to make a statement, or concept album, but it partly came out that way. No one wants ‘hit-me-over-the-head’ protest songs anymore, so we’ve focused on universal themes – like just trying to be better.”

The Storm Windows are proficient in performing both as an original band and cover band. Following the method of their first album, they continued to choose songs from both categories on this record to showcase their strengths. Blending the established sounds of Americana with a pinch of classic rock, the duo uses their unique formula to give modish life to some traditional sounds. “Our songs take stock of the current American landscape. Rob resides in London part of the year, where he can view the American experience — for better or for worse — through an objective lens,” Don shares about their writing process. “We said our first album focused on the opportunity of the ongoing experiment, rather than its challenges, which we were saving for the second album. Well… here it is.”
