NASHVILLE, TN (October 27, 2023) — Today, the New-York-based Americana, folk duo The Storm Windows release their original holiday single, “It’s Christmas Time (Live),” a folk-rock song written in the Americana, holiday tradition, and its accompanying live performance video. “It’s Christmas Time (Live)” takes an optimistic look at a troubled planet, beginning and ending with a Christmas wish for a better world.

Coming off the release of Second Album (March 2023), the brothers now release their take on a classic Christmas single with their new original song, “It’s Christmas Time (Live),” arriving just in time to get everyone in the holiday spirit.

“It occurred to us that we should have a Christmas song, like many of our musical heroes,” Rob explains. “So we wrote one. A Christmas song is a good place to be optimistic while still noting that there are a lot of things out there that need fixing. We tried to make it thoughtful, but light. Plus, like we say in the song, we really like the holiday season.” In the tradition of the greats, the song is laced with humor, cultural references and social commentary, while paying homage to Christmas classics, with references to Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr, and Dean Martin.

THE STORM WINDOWS PREVIOUS PRAISE:

“Heavy electric roots underpin this thoughtful rock anthem [‘A House Divided’]”
-- Melissa Clarke, Americana Highways, December 6, 2022

“‘Sweet Amelia’ is a bluegrass song at its heart, with a full, layered sound and a lovely, engaging melodic lightness. It’s a conscious blend of old and new… the duo produce a combination of Americana, folk and classic rock.”
-- Andrew Frolish, Americana UK, January 12, 2023

“The Storm Windows milk the gentle groove of the folk-rock of their youth on "Sweet Amelia." The song, which invokes classic jangle rock sounds, is an irresistible foot-tapper, even as the pair sing about an unattainable love. It's sweet, nostalgic, sad, and catchy as hell: all the ingredients that make a perfect rock song. Rob and Don's true blood harmonies give the tune a sense of depth and the feel of lived experience.”
-- Rachel Cholst, The Boot, March 2, 2023

“I’m going to praise The Storm Windows for totally reimagining a psychedelic rock classic [“Somebody To Love”]… it’s brilliant. They kept just enough to make it recognizable by building an entirely new musical structure around it and it absolutely works, no notes.”
-- Daniel Willis, Riff Magazine, February 14, 2023

“The Storm Windows reinvent ‘Somebody to Love’ with their new Latin jazz-folk cover. The opening of the track is utterly unrecognizable, beginning with solo acoustic guitar, but quickly turning into a Latin jazz-folk groove, with Latin percussion and a smooth jazz saxophone.”
-- Riley Haas, Cover Me, February 14, 2023

“Irrepressible and pastoral, with honey-hued vocals blooming across its ten tracks, this record [Second Album] from this unusual, talented, boundary-bending band, reveals its instrumental and lyrical multitudes on every new listen.”
-- Alancackett.com, February 28, 2023

“The Storm Windows’ SECOND ALBUM has everything you should love about music. Exquisite melodies that sound fresh and inviting, historical references delivered in the lyrics, inventive musical arrangements and touches of tender moments that should reach out and embrace even the most hardened Neanderthal. The album’s instrumentation radiates with warmth and is illuminated by subtle details like the wind and brass sections, slinky pedal steel and tasteful electric and acoustic guitar patterns. The daring pair interpret different musical styles in a personal and idiosyncratic way, planting their thick-soled heels in the rich American dirt to come up with a sound that they appropriately refer to as ‘New Americana’ —  music that mixes the organic with the modern.”

The Storm Windows are proficient in performing both as an original band and cover band. Following the method of their first album, they continued to choose songs from both categories on this record to showcase their strengths. Blending the established sounds of Americana with a pinch of classic rock, the duo uses their unique formula to give modish life to some traditional sounds. “Our songs take stock of the current American landscape. Rob resides in London part of the year, where he can view the American experience — for better or for worse — through an objective lens,” Don shares about their writing process. “We said our first album focused on the opportunity of the ongoing experiment, rather than its challenges, which we were saving for the second album. Well… here it is.”

The Mathews brothers conclude “when we record our originals, we debate over a classic versus contemporary sound. Where we land is we want something that twenty years from now, or even twenty years ago, still sounds timely.”
