NASHVILLE, TN (January 27, 2023) — Nashville-based artist Canaan Cox is the definition of a triple threat: singer/songwriter, actor, and dancer. His music is a fusion of contemporary country, pop, and a touch of rhythm and blues. Diligently honing in on his craft since moving to Nashville in 2016, Canaan has been building a loyal audience (over 254k followers across social media and over 725k monthly Spotify listeners), and has big plans for 2023 — including his five-track EP (out May 5) with accompanying music videos, and a U.K “Coming Home” Tour that kickoffs in June

Undoubtedly proving Canaan’s proficiency as a songwriter, the lead single — “Hate Me More” — a sultry, radio-ready, country pop hit, was co-written with Eric Arjes and Scott Stepakoff, and produced by Matt Geroux. Out today, the track arrives with an invigorating music video that showcases Canaan’s knack for creating, directing, and producing music videos, which he does all on his own

Yesterday, Country Now exclusively unveiled the latest track remarking that, “Rising star Canaan Cox has reached beyond the bounds of his own creativity…‘Hate Me More’ dives into the battle between love and loss. His pleading vocals draw the listener in and hold them close.”

“Lyrically, this is one of the most vulnerable songs I’ve written,” Canaan shares about “Hate Me More.” “To admit to yourself that you’re not doing ok, is incredibly hard sometimes. I came into the write knowing the hook ‘I tell everyone I hate you but I hate me more, cause I can’t stop loving you.’ I wanted the music to match the aggressiveness of the inner struggle of that situation. After playing around with some ideas I think we nailed the music to match the lyrics.”

During a chance encounter in 2021, Canaan met radio and television personality Bobby Bones, who admired his hustle and invited Canaan to appear on his show which reached over 9.2 million listeners. Grateful for the opportunity, Canaan has been on the uphill ever since.

His previous single “As You Leave” (released January 2022) received critical acclaim with playlisting on several Spotify official playlists such as including “New Boots,” “Wild Country,” “Breakout Country,” “Next From Nashville,” Apple’s “New in Country,” and was also highlighted in Amazon’s “Breakthrough Country” playlist. Following the massive support he received on the Bobby Bones Show, “As You Leave” was spotlighted on the “Country Top 30.” This momentum led Canaan to a phenomenal year of streaming, seeing incredible 10x growth in 2022.

Although for Canaan, gaining the confidence and high self-esteem to professionally pursue music didn’t come to fruition until he embarked on a weight loss and mental health journey. Moreover, it wasn’t until he moved to Nashville that he was able to implement the lifestyle he always dreamed of. “Gaining that confidence in the mirror overwhelmingly spilled over into my career and drive to achieve my goals in the music industry,” he reveals. “Fitness is a perfect metaphor for writing down where you want to go, how you do that, and then seeing the results. That approach is 120% how I’ve gotten to where I am today as an artist and as a person and will continue to use that gained confidence to set the bar higher for myself with each project.”

Originally from North Carolina, his father blasted Conway Twitty records while his mother toured the Southwest with her band, and his seven sisters ensured he had a healthy dose of pop music. Canaan went on to earn a BFA in Musical Theatre from Catawba College which enabled him to have a unique musical perspective that influences everything he does today, from writing original music to his performance during live shows.

“I’ve had many people reach out, giving me their life story or love stories of how my music has helped them through a rough time, a breakup, or simply their morning commute,” says Canaan. “My goal with this forthcoming EP is to expand on, having each song be a story that everyone can relate to.”

With a seven-track album already under his belt, there is much more to come from this multi-talented artist that is paving his own lane in country music.
