The single was born out of a conversation with her grandparents about their 75 years of marriage. When asking about their relationship and how they’ve made their love last a lifetime, her grandpa responded: “You do it right the first time.” Inspired by his words, Shaylen took to writing and thus “Do It Right The First Time” came to be. Shaylen knew she had to share this story after having teased the song on TikTok with an emotional video of her grandpa listening to it for the first time, which quickly gained over 725k views

With two acclaimed country singles, “What If I Don’t” and “Roots,” already under her belt, Shaylen has already earned her keep in the country scene. Her debut country single, “What If I Don’t,” marked this new, authentic chapter of Shaylen’s career. Gaining immediate attention in the country music industry, the single reached over 4 million streams across both Apple Music and Spotify. Co-written by Shaylen, Seth Ennis, Phil Barton and Lindsay Rimes, and produced by Ilya Toshinskiy (Jimmie Allen, Riley Green) and Lindsay Rimes (Thomas Rhett, LoCash), “What If I Don’t” laid the groundwork for what’s to come. The song was also added to multiple playlists upon its release including Whiskey Riff’s “New Music Friday” playlistSpotify’sNew Music Friday Country” playlist and Apple’s “New In Country” playlist.

Roots,” Shaylen’s second country track, immediately amassed over 500k streams across DSPs within its first month of being released, having also been included in Apple’s Today’s Country,” Soundcheck” and “Country Risers” playlists, as well as Spotify’s New Music Friday Country” and “Fresh Finds Country.” The song’s nostalgic music video was spotlighted in VEVO’s “Incoming Country” playlists across YouTube, Apple TV, Roku, and Amazon Fire TV.

Born in Chattanooga, TN and raised in Dallas, Shaylen is no stranger to the world of country music. Growing up with the voices of icons from Elvis to Ella Fitzgerald and Willie Nelson to Janis Joplin floating through her home, Shaylen has been influenced by all genres of music from the very beginning. Her roots in the south are where her country and gospel influences came from and are the core of who she is as an artist.

After spending 10 years in Los Angeles, CA as a thriving pop artist with Republic Records, Shaylen found it was her time to come home. Garnering a strong fanbase and tens-of millions of streams from the slew of EPs and singles she released during her time there, Shaylen felt it was time to make the return back to her roots. Although she’s made the jump from pop music to country, Shaylen has always used her music as an avenue for working through emotions and experiences in life, while staying true to herself. This upcoming body of work will take listeners on an emotional rollercoaster. “By the end of every song I hope listeners can resonate and apply their own stories to the songs and know that they can get through anything,” says Shaylen. As she settles into her new life in Nashville, Shaylen continues to tap into what feels right as her most genuine artistic self.
