Los Angeles (June 28, 2019) – GRAMMY nominated powerhouse songwriter and artist Bonnie McKee has joined forces with emerging 88rising/Red Bull Records artist AUGUST08 to reimagine the Billie Eilish and Khalid platinum hit song “Lovely.” Out today via CURE8 Records as part of the label’s “disCOVERED” series, “Lovely” takes on new life with its uptempo and danceable twist.

Idolator debuted the song yesterday with Mike Wass noting, “the dreamy rendition…works surprisingly well as a banger.”

Bonnie McKee says: “When I set out to record a cover song, I wanted something lyrically striking, so Billie and Khalid were my first choice! ‘Lovely’ is a haunting story, evoking adolescent nights of sneaking out and wandering aimlessly, alone with your thoughts and fears, just you, your shadow, and your footsteps. It feels like an attempted escape from suburbia, finding a quiet moment to indulge in the frustration of desire, the sting of loneliness, and the romance of longing to flee the constraints of routine and authority. August 08 was the perfect match to reimagine this gem with, and Jamie Reed and I approached the production with a lot of movement and warmth, so it feels like an ethereal summer night reverie.”

AUGUST 08 adds: “Working with Bonnie is always a pleasure and I’m glad I got to be a part of this special cover of a beautiful song. Excited for this to come out!”

CURE8, the digital-only label owned and operated by Primary Wave, was created to release singles and compilations of well-known artists covering well-known hits. The series is titled “disCOVERED” and aims to be the go-to destination for high quality cover songs by artists with real fan bases.

Bonnie McKee is a former teenage runaway turned self-made industry powerhouse. Moving from Seattle to Los Angeles at 16 on her own, her big voice, bright pop sensibilities, and evocative lyrical prowess landed her a sizable record deal on Reprise Records.

After releasing her first album, she went on to become one of the industry's mostsought-after songwriters, writing hits for the likes of Katy Perry, Britney Spears, Kesha, Kelly Clarkson, and Jason Derulo, to name a few. Her songs have received six Grammy nods, and she's won dozens of BMI awards. But while writing ten #1 songs for other singers is an impressive feat, Bonnie is an artist, and entertaining is where her passion lies. She has accumulated over 50 million views on her brightly colored, wildly original music videos, and her electrifying live performances and carefully curated visuals have gained her a robust fan base, ever hungry for more.

Bonnie is currently working on a raw and deeply personal body of work she plans to release in the coming months.

Hailing from Long Beach, CA - AUGUST 08 made a strong and impressive mark with his debut FATHER EP in 2018. August resurrected buried emotions and suppressed memories to give listeners a vivid and honest portrayal of his life after age 11, when his father walked out on him and his family. “For a first go, Father is surprising in both its degree of vulnerability and general polish—this is R&B for the 22nd century, an unflinching transmutation of emotion into music,” Pigeons & Planes reviewed, adding that “two things buoy what could have turned into an emotionally exhausting listen: well-timed jolts of energy and August's incredible voice.” Released by 88rising and Red Bull Records, the project kicked off a whirlwind year for AUGUST 08, that included raving support from tastemakers and critics like Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, TRL, Billboard, i-D, Clash and Highsnobiety, just to name a few. The momentum continued with the success of his single, “Midsummer Madness,” with labelmates Joji, Rich Brian and Higher Brothers, for 88rising’s first compilation album, Head in the Clouds. In addition to the single reaching #23 on Billboard’s Hot R&B Songs, the album and artists were featured on Spotify’s Time Square billboard, homepage takeover and New Music Friday playlist. The second half of 2018 finds AUGUST 08 playing sold-out venues, including the Shrine in Los Angeles, Warsaw in San Francisco and Terminal 5 in New York City. He was a featured act on 88rising’s 17-city 88 Degrees & Rising Tour, garnering press attention and an anticipated appetite for new music from the emerging singer.

In 2019, August 08 released singles “Blood on My Hands” and “Simple Pleasures”, both signaling a new direction in his sound – a lead in to his second studio album “Happy Endings” slated to release in early fall.

Most recently, AUGUST 08 was a headline performer during the 88rising set at the Red Bull Music Festival in Tokyo, Japan and is slated to perform at 88rising’s upcoming “Head In The Clouds” music festival on August 17.
